Our story
Why we're making it
There was a specific sound to it. The foil coming apart at the seam, then three thin wafers giving way at once — not a crumble, a snap.
I'd eat one on the walk home and be quietly annoyed if the chocolate had gone soft in my bag. That was the whole review. It was good, and I didn't think about it again for twenty years.
Then a box arrived, a long way from home, with a handful of them at the bottom. I hadn't thought about that sound since I was nine. It landed harder than anything else in the box.
Then I had kids of my own, and I started turning packages over in the grocery aisle. The snack I remembered was still there. Still good. But the list on the back had grown longer than the thing deserved, and I'd stand there doing the arithmetic every parent does — is this a yes, or a yes I'll feel slightly bad about?
I got tired of the second answer.
So we're building the one I'd hand my own kids without the arithmetic. A crisp wafer, real peanut butter, real chocolate, and enough protein that it holds someone until dinner. Nothing on the back I'd have to explain.
We're in Virginia, about ninety minutes north of some of the best peanut country in the United States. That's where we intend to start.
